How it works
If you’re having difficulty getting pregnant, there’s a huge possibility that In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is right for you. Here are the five primary steps IVF process takes.
Your fertility specialist will monitor your ovaries and the timing of egg release both before and during the in vitro fertilization process.
Among other procedures, the doctor will ensure that your ovaries are producing eggs and that your hormone levels are normal.
upper vaginal wall is then punctured with a very thin needle. Fluid is drained from the follicles using vaginal ultrasonography and gentle suction.
The oocyte (egg) is separated from the follicular fluid immediately after aspiration of the follicle. The egg is placed in a nutrient media-filled culture dish before being transported to the incubator.
During this stage, a sample of sperm is obtained, either from your partner or from a donor, and the most active sperm is mixed with the egg in a special chamber.
Sometimes sperm is injected directly into the egg.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) examines embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF) for a variety of genetic problems that can cause implantation failure, miscarriage, and birth defects in child.
The embryos are examined to determine which are the healthiest for transfer.
A speculum is inserted into your vagina, and the embryo(s) are transferred via a small plastic tube inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity.
After egg retrieval, your doctor will test a sample of your blood from 12 days to two weeks to see if you're pregnant. If you do become pregnant, ultrasound scans will be performed in the next weeks to ensure everything is going as smoothly as planned.
If, however, the pregnancy doesn’t occur, you shouldn’t feel discouraged to try again - most women need several rounds of IVF until they’re pregnant with their baby!
Whether you’re considering surrogacy, becoming a parent through surrogacy or still understanding what is the surrogacy you may have questions along the way.
